About
Takanock tackles the data center industry's core challenge of developing shovel-ready data center sites by leveraging decades of experience in site selection, power generation, energy markets and infrastructure. With a proven track record — helping establish Google Energy, leading Microsoft’s global renewable strategy, and successfully scaling Birch Infrastructure (including what became Rowan Digital Infrastructure and Copia Power) — Takanock focuses on Tier I and Tier II markets where demand for data centers is greatest and power constraints are most acute. By bringing our own on-site generation and unlocking grid capacity where others struggle, we accelerate deployment timelines and ensure Continuity of Power℠.
Opportunity
Demand for new data centers in the U.S., in part due to the rapid growth of AI, is projected to double by 2030 and will require a corresponding increase in energy supply. The U.S. power grid is not able to support the required capacity growth and is increasingly fragile, strained by aging infrastructure, more frequent extreme weather events and threats from electromagnetic interference (EMI). Access to power is the ‘long pole in the tent’ for the development of new data centers. Lengthy delays for power access in combination with outdated backup solutions erect a real barrier to meeting new data center demand.
Solution
Takanock’s patent-pending utility yard configuration utilizes proven technologies to integrate purpose-built natural gas generation with the latest data center infrastructure, thereby bringing our own generation and unlocking grid capacity while maintaining functionality and resilience. Our licensable design eliminates single points of failure through dual-fuel resiliency and sidesteps pipeline capacity constraints while meeting existing data center onsite fuel requirements. Importantly, the design enables earlier project development by providing interim generation until a grid interconnection is in place. Our solution ensures five-nines (99.999%) reliability while eliminating the need for diesel backup generators. This enables rapid deployment, sustained operations, and Continuity of Power℠ for mission-critical data centers, even during extended outages or grid disruptions.
